Reevaluating Product Design - #Blog15

With the conclusion of the Passover break and the easing of guidelines, we have returned to full activity on campus. We are entering two critical weeks for the project’s continuation, during which we must make significant decisions that will impact the final outcome.

We presented our progress to the faculty and held an open discussion regarding the technical challenges of the product. The meeting clarified our understanding that the original bracelet format may not be suitable at this stage; the effort to compress all the technological components (battery, controllers, wiring, and lighting) into a thin, elegant strap could come at the expense of the student's comfort and the device's durability.

Consequently, we have begun exploring two alternative directions: a wand or a small remote. These objects allow for a larger working space for the electronic components while maintaining the visibility of the LED display. We have started conducting research on remotes and wands, and we are required to decide on the product type by next week.

In parallel with evaluating these alternatives, we participated this week in a practical workshop led by Aviad on the use of 3D printing. We sent an initial model of the bracelet we had designed thus far to be printed. The model is expected to be ready early next week, and we look forward to seeing how the computer-aided design translates into a physical object that can be held.

On the academic side of the project, we achieved significant progress by completing the literature review (Related Work). This chapter consolidates the scientific foundation for social cohesion and group dynamics in schools. Next week, we will begin drafting the Design chapter, where we will detail the methodology of the experiments we conducted and the system we built.
